Recently, I had to help someone in small claims because they were a business, and the court refused to let them try the case on their own. So, we worked out a deal where the client did most of the heavy lifting. But what I was tasked with was writing the demand letter, drafting the claim, and showing up in court to ask the questions.
Now, as soon as I got involved and the court saw that there was a lawyer involved and they served the other side, the other client came to the table with an offer that we could all live with. Now, I talked to my client and said, it seems like I didn’t do that much work. I didn’t charge him that much. But at the end of the day, what I believe is the demand letter from a lawyer, followed by a complaint filed by a lawyer helped get the settlement.
This was a case where financially it needs to be, which, even after paying my fees, was probably a greater result than what the client could do for its own. So even if you think the case is too small, it may be worth talking to a lawyer such as myself about.
